Will Cambridgeshire’s Conservatives take more money from county’s carers?

Cambridgeshire Lib Dems have renewed their call for the County Council not to increase care costs for the poorest elderly or disabled people and their carers.

The Conservatives are proposing to raise charges for people who receive Carers Allowances, Disability Allowance or Personal Independence Payments.

Liberal Democrat Councillors voiced their opposition to these cruel proposals at a County Council committee meeting on 9th November but the charges are back for more discussion tomorrow [Thurs 7 Dec].

Now, a formal consultation will be launched on all the charge increases and the Lib Dems want to see the changes for the most vulnerable to be dropped from the plans.

Cllr Graham Wilson said, “These charges will hit the poorest and the most vulnerable. Losing £27.45 a week will really hurt many people relying on Disability Allowance.”
