Eileen Wilson

Lib Dem district councillor for Cottenham

I moved to Cottenham with my family 20 years ago and we really enjoy living in Fen Edge. I want to see everyone’s quality of life here protected and improved.

In both Willingham and Cottenham, we still face the consequences of the speculative housing developments resulting from the previous Conservative district council’s disastrous running of the planning system.

This has been put right under the Lib Dems, but the increased traffic, construction impacts, pressure on services and loss of green spaces remain of concern to us local residents.

I will work hard to ensure the county council addresses local issues. The legacy of the lockdown will be difficult for many - particularly young people, the elderly, the bereaved and those who have lost their jobs. We need to invest in these groups to ensure their outlook is improved. Most importantly, the county council needs to be run with integrity and with a caring vision.

Neil Gough

The Lib Dem plan for our area

1. A greener, fairer Cambridgeshire
Our villages are under stress from growth without investment. We need to focus on regulating the weight of heavy vehicles, controlling speeds, better public transport and making our villages more attractive for cyclists and pedestrians.

2. A more caring community
The pandemic has demonstrated how our quality of life depends on local businesses, neighbours and community groups. Through my work for the Fen Edge Community Association and the Covid-19 support team, I am committed to building on the sense of community in our villages.

3. A better future for young people
Young people have had a difficult time, and we need to invest in them to ensure that they are supported in their education, opportunities for social interaction and long-term employment prospects.
