Lib Dem district councillor for Longstanton
Lib Dem district councillor for Over and Willingham
I love where I live and being an active member of my community, which is why I am standing in the county council elections on 6th May.
I was one of the first residents of Northstowe and I created Northstowe Foodies, bringing independent food trucks to our new town. A portion of the pitch fees goes to community causes.
With our local councillors, I helped to raise £2,600 for hungry children during the Free School Meals crisis, and also ran an appeal for laptops for schools. I am an active member of the Northstowe Secondary School fundraising committee.
I will be a strong voice calling for maintaining the green separation between Oakington and Northstowe. I also want to see action on flooding before Phase 3a is occupied.
The council’s neglect of roads throughout our villages is disgraceful. Over in particular is blighted by potholes after years of underinvestment by the ruling Conservatives.
My husband teaches at Hatton Park Primary so we have strong ties with Longstanton, and I want to ensure the development of Northstowe continues sensitively.
My aim is to support all residents to create a great place to live, with plenty for children and young people to do and shops we can cycle or walk to.
The Lib Dem plan for our area
1. Potholes and drains
Under the Conservative county council, our roads, pavements and cycle paths have fallen into a terrible state, littered with potholes. Astonishingly, the Conservatives have now cut the road maintenance grant for next year by £7.5 million. I have started a petition calling on the county council to take action on the drains in Oakington. Please show your support so we can apply pressure on the council by signing our petition at https://tinyurl.com/oakydrains.
2. Northstowe facilities
The Lib Dem district council has just committed to investing £5 million in Northstowe Phase 1, to provide more retail and leisure facilities. I will work to ensure that we get the shops and facilities that best suit our community, including pushing for the delivery of Northstowe’s own GP surgery.
3. More for young people
I will push for more facilities and activities for young people. As a mum of a teenage boy, I know we don’t have enough to offer older children in the area. That's why I have kickstarted teen and adult basketball with Living Sport, and sessions will start in w/c 19 April.
